  Indirect Translations and Multilingualism in the Early Modern Period

  Duisburg-Essen

  In the framework of the research project “Dutch as an Intermediary Language for Translations into German in the 17th and 18th Century” funded by the German Research Foundation, the Department of Dutch Studies of the Universität Duisburg-Essen is hosting a two-day workshop/conference. With the aim of deepening scholarly ties to partners nationally and internationally and embedding the project in a broader European research context, its primary focus is on the complex processes and transfer routes of indirect translations in the Early Modern period. 

   

  The workshop/conference provides an interdisciplinary forum for discussion on Early Modern translation cultures, historical multilingual constellations, and methodological perspectives on indirect translations. Impulses from translation studies, historical multilingualism research, and studies in literary and cultural history help pave new means of access to the protagonists, practices, and intermediary languages of the sixteenth to early eighteenth centuries.
